Stochastic Variance-Reduced Hamilton Monte Carlo Methods
نویسندگان
چکیده
We propose a fast stochastic Hamilton Monte Carlo (HMC) method, for sampling from a smooth and strongly log-concave distribution. At the core of our proposed method is a variance reduction technique inspired by the recent advance in stochastic optimization. We show that, to achieve accuracy in 2-Wasserstein distance, our algorithm achieves Õ ( n+ κd/ + κdn/ 2/3 ) gradient complexity (i.e., number of component gradient evaluations), which outperforms the state-of-the-art HMC and stochastic gradient HMC methods in a wide regime. We also extend our algorithm for sampling from smooth and general log-concave distributions, and prove the corresponding gradient complexity as well. Experiments on both synthetic and real data demonstrate the superior performance of our algorithm.

Stochastic Gradient Hamiltonian Monte Carlo with Variance Reduction for Bayesian Inference
Gradient-based Monte Carlo sampling algorithms, like Langevin dynamics and Hamiltonian Monte Carlo, are important methods for Bayesian inference. In large-scale settings, full-gradients are not affordable and thus stochastic gradients evaluated on mini-batches are used as a replacement. In order to reduce the high variance of noisy stochastic gradients, [Dubey et al., 2016] applied the standard...
متن کاملMC/QMC Methods for Option Pricing under Stochastic Volatility Models
In the context of multi-factor stochastic volatility models, which contain the widely used Heston model, we present variance reduction techniques to price European options by Monte Carlo (MC) and QuasiMonte Carlo (QMC) methods. We formulate a stochastic integral as a martingale control for the payoffs to be evaluated. That control corresponds to the cost of an approximate delta hedging strategy...
متن کاملCPSG-MCMC: Clustering-Based Preprocessing method for Stochastic Gradient MCMC
In recent years, stochastic gradient Markov Chain Monte Carlo (SG-MCMC) methods have been raised to process large-scale dataset by iterative learning from small minibatches. However, the high variance caused by naive subsampling usually slows down the convergence to the desired posterior distribution. In this paper, we propose an effective subsampling strategy to reduce the variance based on a ...
متن کاملTopics on Monte Carlo Simulation-Based Methods for Stochastic Optimization Problems: Stochastic Constraints and Variance Reduction Techniques
We provide an overview of two select topics in Monte Carlo simulationbased methods for stochastic optimization: problems with stochastic constraints and variance reduction techniques. While Monte Carlo simulation-based methods have been successfully used for stochastic optimization problems with deterministic constraints, there is a growing body of work on its use for problems with stochastic c...
متن کاملApplicability of Importance Sampling to Coupled Molecular Reactions
Importance Sampling is a variance reduction technique possessing the potential of zero-variance estimators in its optimal case. It has been successfully applied in a variety of settings ranging from Monte Carlo methods for static models to simulations of complex dynamical systems governed by stochastic processes. We demonstrate the applicability of Importance Sampling to the simulation of coupl...
